THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MOTHERS’ KNOWLEDGE LEVEL ABOUT THE PCV VACCINE AND THE INCIDENCE OF PNEUMONIA IN CHILDREN AGED 12–59 MONTHS AT RSD MANGUSADA IN 2026

Abstract

Introduction

Pneumonia remains a major cause of morbidity among children under five. Mothers' knowledge of the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) is one factor associated with pneumonia prevention. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between mothers' knowledge of the PCV vaccine and pneumonia incidence among children aged 12–59 months at Mangusada Regional Hospital.

Method

This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design. The study included 40 mothers of children aged 12–59 months selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test.

Result

The results of the statistical analysis showed that the Chi-Square test of the relationship between mothers' knowledge of the PCV vaccine and pneumonia incidence among children under five yielded a p-value of 0.007 (p < 0.05).

Conclusion

So it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge of the PCV vaccine and pneumonia incidence among children aged 12–59 months at Mangusada Regional Hospital.
